Little Green Frogs was founded in 2006 by friends Jacqui Goodson and Maddy Wilkinson. The business has grown from one small, nameless music class in Liphook into Little Green Frogs Music in Godalming, and Liphook. The name Little Green Frogs came from the traditional song "Mmm Mmm went the Little Green Frog One Day" which involves lots of eye-popping actions and enthusiastic sticking out of tongues!
Maddy and Jacqui have created Music and Activity classes which are both fun for children and relaxing for parents and carers. Having experienced a lot of classes with their own children they picked the elements that had worked for them. One of their main aims was to offer classes on a pay-as- you-go basis so that no family was excluded by having to pay a lump sum in advance and that none of their customers would have to pay for a session they could not attend through illness or other unforeseen circumstances.
Each Little Green Frogs session has a clear structure so that the children feel confident and secure in knowing what is coming next. However within that structure children are given the opportunity to explore and respond in their own way. We know how it feels to be the parent of a child who just can't sit still, so we never insist that your child sits on your knee for any length of time or that they respond to songs in a certain way. Children respond as individuals and if they want to express themselves by dancing, hopping or just by observing then that's fine with us. Adult participation is key to a child's language and social development, if parents and carers are actively involved then young children will feel more comfortable and confident in joining in and following their example. It doesn't matter if you think you're tone deaf (You're probably not!) and it doesn't matter if you feel silly (Everyone else does too!) just smile, take a deep breath and sing. It's a great way to share a fun experience with your child and it will help you to learn the words of lots of songs that you can use to soothe or cheer up your child anytime and anywhere. We're told that the Little Green Frog song works wonders in supermarket queues and Zoom, Zoom, Zoom can stop a tantrum in its tracks!
We believe it's important to have mixed aged sessions rather than separate the children by age group. All children learn at different rates and they can all benefit from a wide range of activities. Babies learn by observing older children, and the older ones learn and gain confidence from demonstrating and helping younger ones. It is of great benefit to families with more than one young child to come to mixed aged session as they can share the experience together as a family. Mums, Dads, and Grandparents are always welcome to come along to Little Green Frogs so that the whole family can enjoy the fun.
